Since 1976, Garfield, a beloved American comic strip, has hated Mondays and loved lasagna. This grumpy orange cat has continued to win over the public through a variety of animated programmes, video games, books, and films, along with his best friend and favourite dog, Odie. Odie, in contrast to Garfield, is a happy animal who loves to play. What breed of dog is Odie, though? Take a look and learn!
Who Is Odie?
Garfield the cat’s best friend is a dog named Odie. Odie is a beloved character among fans worldwide because of his positive outlook and boundless excitement for life, despite his occasional dopey behaviour. In the August 26, 2007, issue of Garfield, we see Garfield trying to figure out Odie’s breed. He looks at a book and ponders for a while before saying, “Ah, here you are…purebred clown.”
Though he frequently makes Odie the target of his jokes and antics, Garfield appears to have affection for his canine companion on the inside. Odie periodically exacts revenge on Garfield in the Garfield comics, and it’s implied that he has a more nuanced side that surfaced only when he was by himself.
Odie from Garfield Is What Kind of Dog?
Odie appears in the Garfield comics as a beagle. He has long brown ears, yellow fur, and a habit of sticking his tongue out of his mouth. Scent hounds by nature, beagles enjoy following their noses even when doing so puts them in danger. Despite their potential to be wonderful family companions, they require a lot of physical activity, cerebral stimulation, and space to play and explore. In addition, because beagles are inherently curious and skilled escape artists, any backyard they spend time in needs to be well-fenced. These shrewd little dogs can sprint, climb, and dig well. Their innate curiosity may force them to venture outside of your yard in search of more scents.
Beagles are amiable canines with expressive brown eyes and floppy ears. They weigh between 20 and 30 pounds and have a shoulder height of 13 to 15 inches. Beagles are amiable canines that adore spending time with people. They were originally designed to hunt in packs. Most of the time, they get along well with kids and other pets.
Beyond the Beagle: An Alternate Odie Breed
While Odie is typically represented as a beagle, a wire-haired dachshund/terrier mix played Odie in the live-action films Garfield: The Movie (2004) and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006).The majority of these cross-bred dogs are small to medium sized canines. They typically weigh between 15 and 25 pounds and stand 10 to 15 inches tall at the shoulder. They have expressive eyes and large, floppy ears, just like beagles.
Wire-haired mix terrier and dachshund Dogs get their love of playing and boundless energy from both of their parent breeds. They are curious, too, just like beagles. Their terrier side might occasionally bring them into trouble because they are naturally curious about everything. Terriers and dachshunds are both highly clever dogs, but terriers have a tendency to be stubborn, so teaching them well takes time, patience, and consistency.
