Merchant Navy Courses After 10th STD:

There are different types of courses such as:

1-GP Rating course,
2-Deck Rating course,
3-Engine Rating course,
4-Saloon Rating course,
5-NCV Course,
6-Diploma in Marine Engineering (DME Pre-Sea training).

1-GP Rating course: To join this Merchant Navy Courses the applicant must have passed 10th STD with Science, English, and Mathematics and the applicant’s age must be minimum 17.5 years and not more than 25 years. It is a pre-sea training program for a period of six months. As per Merchant Shipping rules, the applicant must be physically fit in every standard, eyesight must be minimum 6/6 with no color blindness. After the course is complete the applicant will gain a certificate from the Institute, and further he can join as Deck/Engine crew any firm in Merchant Navy ships.

2-Deck Rating course: To join this Merchant Navy Courses the applicant must have passed 10th STD with Science, English, and Mathematics and the applicant’s age must be minimum of 17.5 years and not more than 25 years. It is a pre-sea training program for a period of six months. As per Merchant Shipping rules, the applicant must be physically fit in every standard, eyesight must be minimum 6/6 with no color blindness. After the course is complete the applicant will gain a certificate from the Institute, and further he can join as Deck crew in any firm of Merchant Navy ships.

3-Engine Rating course: The applicant can join the engine crew training with the GP training courses. But crew training courses also have some separate engine courses. The duration of pre-sea courses is six months. From 17.5 to 25 years of age applicant is only allowed for these courses. In order to join this course, the student has to pass the SSC examination with (mathematics, science and English subjects).In this course, the applicant concentrates on engine courses only.  The student will get the certificate after the courses get complete then the student can join the merchant navy ship in the team of engine crew only. According to the merchant navy rules the applicant must be as fit.

4-Saloon Rating Course: In this Merchant Navy Courses, the applicant will get the training of the catering course. The applicant will be able to take all the responsibility of the catering department on the merchant navy ships by taking a saloon rating course. The duration of pre-sea courses is six months. The applicant who had passed the SSC examination will be allowed for this course. From 17.5 to 25 years of age applicant is only allowed for these courses. According to the merchant navy rules, the applicant must be as fit.

5-NCV Course: The full form of NCV is Near Coastal Voyage. The duration of the training is six months. The applicant who wish to join for this course after 10th they have to pass the SSC examination. From 17.5 to 25 years of age applicant is only allowed for these courses. According to the merchant navy rules, the applicant must be as fit.

6-Diploma In Marine Engineering: This course is also called the DME course. The duration of the Diploma in Marine Engineering is three years certificate program. After completing this course, the applicant has to go for two years course in the pre-sea course. After all this, there will be a qualifying examination that will be held and then the applicant will be able to join any Merchant Navy as an Engineer aboard.

There is one more process which is called ‘lateral entry.’ The applicant who has completed the Diploma in Marine Engineering can also get admission in the 2nd year of B.E/B.Tech. Marine Engineering Program.

There are other courses rather than which are mentioned above like fire safety and fire fighting, welding, electrical certification, etc.
